چکیده

Several phenomena can be described by a number of densities (of mass, population, probability, ...) distributed in a domain and subject to di↵usion, reaction, and either cooperative or competitive interaction. Whenever the interaction is the prevailing mechanism, one can reasonably expect pattern formation and, in the competitive case, that the several densities can not coexist and tend to segregate hence determining a partition of the domain.

Special Session 33: Nonlinear Elliptic and Parabolic Problems in Mathematical Sciences

Recent developments of mathematical study for nonlinear PDEs (partial di↵erential equations) provide new ideas and various techniques based on calculus of variations, dynamical systems, asymptotic analysis, qualitative theory etc. In this session we bring together researchers in this research area to present new results for nonlinear parabolic and elliptic equations arising from mathematical sc...

New Method for Large Deflection Analysis of an Elliptic Plate Weakened by an Eccentric Circular Hole

The bending analysis of moderately thick elliptic plates weakened by an eccentric circular hole has been investigated in this article. The nonlinear governing equations have been presented by considering the von-Karman assumptions and the first-order shear deformation theory in cylindrical coordinates system. Semi-analytical polynomial method (SAPM) which had been presented by the author before...

Theory of periodic swarming of bacteria: application to Proteus mirabilis.

The periodic swarming of bacteria is one of the simplest examples for pattern formation produced by the self-organized collective behavior of a large number of organisms. In the spectacular colonies of Proteus mirabilis (the most common species exhibiting this type of growth), a series of concentric rings are developed as the bacteria multiply and swarm following a scenario that periodically re...

Computational Modelling of Nonlinear Calcium Waves

The calcium transport in biological systems is modelled as a reaction-diffusion process. Nonlinear calcium waves are then simulated using a stochastic cellular automaton whose rules are derived from the corresponding coupled partial differential equations. Numerical simulations show self-organized criticality in the complex calcium waves and patterns. Both the stochastic cellular automaton appr...
